Sonny’s BBQ participated in an annual event in the community called Firemen’s Chili Cook-Off. This event supports the Sarasota Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund.
The Sarasota Fire Fighter’s Benevolent Fund was established in 1996 to assist Sarasota County Firefighters and their families during times of crisis. The SFFBF is comprised of local firefighters and paramedics. The SFFBF are managed and operated completely by volunteers. Outside of minimal operating expenses, all proceeds and donations go to charity. This particular event, Sonny’s BBQ had the pleasure of participating in it. We were able to attend the event and see the master chili cooks in action. Sonny’s BBQ also set up a tea booth in which all proceeds went to the SFFBF. But, we wanted to do more for these amazing firemen for all that they do for us.
We decided to throw the biggest Random Acts of BBQ party for the winning chili team! Southern Manatee Fire Department took home the trophy. After much planning, we threw a BBQ bash for not only the winning team, but everyone in their department—including friends and family members of the firefighters. These firemen and their families were so appreciative for what Sonny’s BBQ gave them, when in fact it’s Sonny’s BBQ that truly appreciates them and all they do in our community.
While talking to the Chief that day, he said he was so grateful that we threw this party for them because normally they don’t have the money to have a Christmas party. Typically, they hand out annual awards and that’s it. This year we were able to make it extra special for them by providing delicious BBQ and helping them throw an actual Christmas party. What these women and men do on a daily basis with putting their lives on the line is absolutely amazing. You could truly feel the love that they share for each other.
