“Pass on a smile and look out for everybody, because life’s too short.” Those are just some of the heartwarming words heard during our latest round of Random Acts of BBQ surprises. From Florida to North Carolina, these four team members put kindness first, and their stories are truly inspirational. Let’s get this roundup started.

Sheryl – Ocala, FL

Sheryl has been with the Sonny’s family since 1986. She’s currently a Bartender at the Sonny’s BBQ on Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, Florida. It’s a new position for her, but she’s staying positive and greeting every day with a smile. That includes experimenting with some speciality drinks, like the ones we saw on the bar when we surprised her on St. Patrick’s Day.

But that’s just Sheryl’s personality, according to those who nominated her. “She’s just always thinking about the team, always thinking about other people,” says Coy, the Pitmaster and General Manager for that location. “She’s always thinking about how we can make things better, and trying to spark people to do a little bit more to help each other out.”

When asked why she spreads kindness in the way she does, she explains it’s something she’s realized with each year that goes by. “It is important to be kind to everyone. You don’t know what they’re going through,” she says.

Edward “Myles” Jr. – Palatka, FL

If there’s a smile that can light up a room, it’s Myles’. He’s currently a Dishwasher at the Sonny’s in Palatka, Florida. However, don’t let his job title fool you, he’s really a master of all trades who’s always ready to jump in to help where he’s needed.

It’s that attitude and positivity why we couldn’t wait to partner with his team to surprise him with a Random Act of BBQ.

His manager Janet was the one who nominated him. She says, whenever she needs Myles, he’s there. “He always gives 100%,” says Janet. “He always comes in with the best attitude. Every Sunday he brings donuts. You try to reimburse him and he won’t let you. He says this is what makes me happy.”

In fact, Myles says this moment was one of two times he’s ever been surprised in this life. “When I turned 65, my brothers and sister gave me a surprise birthday party,” explains Myles. “I had to hold my emotions back for this one.”

Rachael – Marietta, GA

Rachael is the epitome of excellence at Sonny’s in Marietta, GA. She’s been with Sonny’s for 4 years, and is currently working as a Pitmaster Apprentice. She trains everyone who comes into the kitchen with kindness and positivity, and she’s always making sure every recipe is perfected from pit to plate.

“Rachael’s nighttime reading is usually all the Sonny’s recipes,” says Louvaine, her manager. “I can always count on her to come tell me if we need to fix something.”

You may also recognize her from our BBQ & You trip to Marietta, where we noticed her natural spark and energy during that interview as well.

Jevarh – Concord, NC

Jevarh’s kindness shines through every day at work. He works at the Pit and also as a Dishwasher at the Sonny’s in Concord, North Carolina.

When asked why he was nominated, his team says the reasons are very simple: his infectious laughter, his constant smile and incredible work ethic just to name a few. We couldn’t be more proud of people like Jevarh all across our Sonny’s footprint.
