Random Acts of Kindness Week aims to inspire people to perform good deeds that generate a wave of kindness. This year, we wanted to create an enjoyable way for all team members to participate. Throughout the week, we introduced kindness challenges that team members could take part in and submit for a chance to have their stories shared.

Each team member demonstrated creativity with the challenges and discovered numerous ways to spread kindness in their communities. They consistently make us proud by embodying our values and being kind to those around them. Here are a few examples of how our team members went the extra mile to complete our kindness challenges.

Do Something for a Guest

The initial kindness challenge involved doing something kind for a guest. This meant going the extra mile to be kind and helpful to all guests that entered the establishment that day. We always encourage our team members to offer a helping hand, so it was no surprise when we received numerous submissions of team members doing exactly that!

One story we received was from Brooke, a cashier at the New Port Richey location, who assisted an elderly couple on their way to their car. As they attempted to leave the restaurant, they accidentally set off their car alarm and struggled to turn it off. Brooke helped them disable the alarm, escorted them to their car, and opened their car doors to ensure they entered safely.

Another way our team members did something kind for a guest was when a Jonesboro server paid the check for her table. After chatting with two guests she was serving, she learned they have been dining at Sonny’s BBQ for over 30 years and wanted to do something special for them. She surprised them when she covered their meals as a thank you for being loyal guests. They were extremely appreciative of the kind gesture.

Neighborly Love

We like to support small businesses in our communities and thought it would be a fun idea to challenge our team members to spread some kindness to the businesses and organizations around them.

Angalyn, a server at the Ocoee location, surprised the One Heart for Women and Children Charity with catered meals for the team. She said it was a blessing to do something kind for such an outstanding charity and brought tears to her eyes seeing how excited they were to enjoy a tasty BBQ meal.

The team at the Bowling Green location surprised their local Humane Society with a catered feast for the whole team. They came together and spent the morning packing up Pulled Pork, Mac & Cheese, Potato Salad, Banana Pudding, and Teas. They also surprised them with a couple of our signature Sonny’s BBQ Sauces!

Extra Effort

We asked all team members to submit a nomination for someone who is always going the extra mile to help those around them. One location went above and beyond to show their team a little extra effort. From helping a team member in need to surprising guests with sweet treats, the Gainesville team did it all.

Rayleigh, a host at this location, covered the takeout area so one of her team members could deliver a catering. She also wrote handwritten notes on Sonny’s postcards and handed them out to each guest that came in.

Madi, a server, surprised her tables with a free banana pudding dessert. There is nothing like seeing the smile on a guest’s face when you bring them a sweet treat to enjoy!
