Sonny’s knows first responders are the heart and soul of our communities. They are the first on the scene and the last to leave. Their bravery continues to amaze us each and every day. Our Chief Kindness Officer, Kennon Adkinson, recently had the opportunity to recognize two very deserving first responders, Mariah Cason and Lt. Rankin, with a Random Act of BBQ for all their hard work on duty and within their community.

Kennon was joined by the Spring Hill Sonny’s BBQ team to surprise Mariah with her award. Mariah is always putting others before herself. Not only as a first responder, but she also uses her free time to help raise funds for cancer patients. She started a small business making free candles for cancer patients and selling candles to donate money to cancer treatment hospitals. She does all this for her community while going to college to become a physical therapist. We are honored to know Mariah and are so grateful for everything she does to make the world a better place. Thank you for always leading with kindness!

Kennon also had the opportunity to surprise Lt. Rankin in front of his Sumter County team. During this event Kennon recognized Lt. Rankin for his efforts to help fight breast cancer. Rankin coordinates the department’s breast cancer shirt project every year. The project raises money for breast cancer treatment and awareness, which is donated to a local organization. The Villages Sonny’s BBQ location fed over 100 first responders at the Wildwood Public Safety Building.

We are always lookin’ for ways to recognize and appreciate our first responders for everything they continuously do to keep our communities safe. That’s why we have teamed up with the First Responders Children’s Foundation (FRCF). FRCF helps support children and families of first responders who have lost their lives or been injured in the line of duty.

They promote educational activities created by other first responder organizations whose purpose is to benefit children and the community. Their areas of impact include scholarships, grants, funeral expenses, mental health, and economic assistance.
