Each day, our troops stand on the frontlines, selflessly putting their lives on the line to ensure our safety and protection from harm. One of the simplest yet most impactful ways to support our military is by expressing our gratitude. A heartfelt “thank you for your service” can go a long way in letting them know that their sacrifices do not go unnoticed. That’s why Sonny’s is proudly partnering with Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit organization dedicated to showing service members that there is always someone back home who cares for them. Through this partnership, we aim to shine a spotlight on their incredible efforts and share our deepest appreciation for the dedication of our troops.
Operation Gratitude got its start in 2003 when their founder, Carolyn Blashek, had a heartbreaking conversation with a service member who had lost sight of the amount of love and appreciation around him while stationed away from home. It was then that Carolyn realized the importance of ensuring that every service member knew someone was thinking about them. She quickly created Operation Gratitude and began the grassroots initiative of building care packages for our troops to help show them their strength and sacrifices are appreciated.
The first 650 Operation Gratitude Care Packages were created in her living room, and since then, with the help of volunteers nationwide, the organization has sent almost 4 million care packages to troops overseas. They continue to create opportunities for people to express gratitude through volunteering, donating, letter writing, and gifting care packages.
In a dedicated effort to advance their mission, Sonny’s is raising funds for Operation Gratitude to be allocated where it is most needed. Furthermore, on National Say Something Nice Day, participating Sonny’s locations will be encouraging team members and valued guests to write thank you letters which will be included in Operation Gratitude’s care packages for the troops overseas. We hope to put a smile on their face as we let them know they are greatly cherished by the Sonny’s family.
