A Message from Chief Kindness Officer on Best Buddies of Central Florida

Best Buddies International is an organization that is near and dear to me. Over the years, I’ve had many encounters with exceptional individuals and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and I’ve seen firsthand what they go through daily. That is what inspired me to learn more and join this cause.

What I love about Best Buddies is that they provide resources and opportunities to the IDD community and also provide a network to connect with one another. This is especially important after a year like 2020 where everyone was so isolated. Best Buddies makes it so easy to volunteer and participate at what level works best for you. I pledged to get more involved and take a more active role to try and create a more inclusive environment for people with IDD. This year, I made the time to join the Central Florida Best Buddies chapter and take part in their BudTalks, helped set up a work-program with iServ BBQ, LLC., and volunteer on their events committee to help with their annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk.

Wils Van Bergen: also known as “Mr. Best Buddies” will make you smile the moment you meet him. His laugh is contagious and his love for Best Buddies unwavering. He’s one of the coolest guys we know and is a great musician on his guitar! He has not only one, but two jobs at both Davey Law Group and Shuffield Lowman through the Best Buddies Jobs Program. Wils also proudly serves as Florida’s State Ambassador for Best Buddies, the Buddy Director for the Central Florida Citizens Program, University of North Florida Best Buddies Alum, and Lyman High School Best Buddies Alum! You bet that Wils loves Sonny’s BBQ and will have a blast being matched with Kennon this year!

If you would like to support the amazing Wils Van Bergen and Kennon Adkinson on their mission to be Best Buddies Champions of the Year, you are invited to donate and leave them a message here.
