June 25, 2009, Maitland, FL - Sonny's Franchise Company is hosting its Second Annual Sonny's Summer Character Camp in partnership with the Boy Scouts' Learning for Life program, offering a free opportunity for at-risk students in Orange County. Nearly one-hundred of Orlando's youths are being served during the week-long day camp. Each child will receive critical life lessons in character development, positive team-building activities, two camp T-shirts, meals, and gifts throughout the week.
Each child will share in several activities that they would not normally have the opportunity to experience including presentations from the police and fire departments, MicheLee Puppets, Kostya the Great Magician, as well as food safety and hands-on cooking demonstrations from Sonny's Bar-B-Q. The summer camp is being held from June 22-26 at George A. Barker Jr. Park and hosts campers from the Paramore Area.Ron Blocker, Orange County School Board Superintendent says, "Sonny's has always been a great partner and this camp makes a positive difference in the lives of these children."
Learning for Life State Chairperson and former Secretary of State for Florida, Glenda Hood, explains, "This is a program that allows Orlando's youth to enjoy their summer in a safe, fun and educational camp that ordinarily would not be available to them.
